MINI unveils 1499 GT special edition

The limited-run model is based on the 1275GT, with only 1,499 going to be built between November and February next year.

MINI has revealed a special edition model that commemorates the 1275GT, one of the brand’s best known small cars.

Called the 1499GT, the design is inspired by the 1969 original supermini and to stay in keeping with the ethos of the original model, the celebration version has low running costs and a small engine.

Under the bonnet is a twin-turbo, three-cylinder engine that produces 101bhp and gets the hatchback from 0-60mph in 10.2 seconds.

The 1499 GT is based on the current MINI Hatch and comes with plenty of premium features, such as the John Cooper Works sports pack – which adds 17-inch black alloys, dark-tinted windows, sporty bumpers, a split-level spoiler and side skirts – and two body colour options, Midnight Black and Pepper White. The model also comes with either gold or white detailing depending on which body colour you choose.

Inside customers will find John Cooper Works leather sports seats, a leather sports steering wheel, cruise control, Piano Black interior trim and the MINI Connected infotainment system. Other features include a six-speed manual gearbox, air conditioning and sports suspension.

Limited to just 1,499 units, MINI expects this model is to be quite popular as it harks back to the vehicles that made the brand so popular in the 60s and 70s.

MINI also announced this model will be available on its new MINI Ready Fuel Go service with one year’s inclusive insurance, which means you pay £299 per month following a £299 deposit. If buying it outright, the 1499 GT costs £16,990 and is available to order now.
