Volkswagen has added a new 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine to the Tiguan range which has 236bhp. This is the most powerful engine offered for the crossover SUV.
Available to order now and with deliveries coming this November, the Tiguan with the 2.0-litre new BiTDI engine is more powerful than a Golf GTI. The engine is only available for the top two trims in the Volkswagen Tiguan range – SEL and R-Line.
Using a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard, the BiTDI engine moves the Tiguan from zero to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 142mph.
The official combined fuel economy for the Tiguan with this bi-turbo diesel is 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions are at 167g/km.
Because it’s available on the top two trims only, the Tiguan with the bi-turbo diesel offers plenty of standard equipment. This includes a sat-nav and media system with an eight-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control and a 12.3-inch TFT screen on the main dash display.
Pricing for the Tiguan with its new 236bhp diesel starts at £36,450 if you want it with the SEL trim, or £38,740 if you go for the R-Line version. VW anticipates the latter of the two will be a more popular seller.
New petrol also added to VW Tiguan range
The powerful bi-turbo diesel is not the only addition to the VW Tiguan range, as the car is also adding a new 2.0-litre TSI with 177bhp to complete its petrol line-up.
This new unit can be hooked up to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive comes as standard. As with the new diesel engine, this 2.0-litre TSI is available only on the SEL and R-Line trims.
The Tiguan covers the zero to 62mph sprint in 7.7 seconds with this petrol unit. It also records a combined fuel economy of 39.8mpg with the manual ‘box or 38.2mpg with the DSG. CO2 emissions with either gearbox is 170g/km.
Pricing for the Tiguan with the new 2.0-litre petrol is set at £30,540 for the SEL version or £32,855 for the R-Line version.
