Most-wanted car features revealed: What drivers really want in new cars

Drivers are always after the latest technology on their vehicle, but what are the most popular features they’re after?

British motorists usually want to fit their new cars with the latest technology when buying them, and a recent survey from Kwik Fit found the most popular equipment specced to British vehicles.

The research also revealed the three least popular pieces of kit drivers want, showing that not all advancements are necessarily what motorists are after.

Here are the top five…

1. Air conditioning

What many people are after on journeys in their car is comfort, and to make the vehicle’s environment the most hospitable it can be, manufacturers provide drivers with air conditioning. It helps keep you cool in the heat and warm in the winter, while also helping remove any humidity from the cabin when the screens need clearing. It’s arguably one of the best features any car can have.

2. Bluetooth

People want to stay connected on the move and what better way to do that than via Bluetooth. The wireless connectivity setup allows motorists to pair their phone to the infotainment system and take hands-free phone calls, play media through the speaker system and use other applications that may come in useful while on the go. Premium models may also come with wireless charging and a signal booster to supplement the Bluetooth connection.

3. Heated windscreen

To ensure driving in colder weather is less of a hassle, customers choose to fit a heated windscreen to help clear the view ahead quicker before setting off. With ice and mist causing disruption in cold weather driving, the application of a heated windscreen will save drivers using ice scrapers and de-icer to get their screen cleared before setting off.

4. Satellite navigation

If there’s one thing drivers don’t want to do while on the go, it’s getting lost, and a sat-nav is perfect way of preventing that. Usually loaded into the infotainment system, it gives drivers a map of the roads around them and allows them to put a route into the system so they know where to go. It’s also a useful way of finding places of interest on the way, so if drivers need to take a break, they know where to go.

5. Parking cameras

Motorists want to keep their cars in a good condition and parking can throw up many hazards when manoeuvring into a tight space. That’s why parking cameras are now being selected more often by drivers, as it gives them a view of the parts of the car that are out of sight and can help guide them into spaces while aiding the use of mirrors.

Features such as voice control, head-up displays and sunroofs are being selected less and less by British motorists – proving that not all high-tech equipment is what drivers are after.
