Mysterious patent images could show the next Lamborghini

A new design patent filed by Lamborghini has potentially offered the first glimpse at the manufacturer’s next major hypercar.

Though the patent was made on October 16th last year, it hasn’t been published until yesterday, and it’s thought that the designs could be related to a rumoured upcoming anniversary model.

Lamborghini will celebrate 100 years since the birth of founder Feruccio Lamborghini this year, while 2016 is also the 50th anniversary of the legendary Miura, and it’s widely expected that a special car will be built to mark the occasion.

Rumours suggest that the new car will be aptly named the Centenario LP770-4, and built on a long-wheelbase version of the Huracan’s underpinnings with the same V12 engine as the Aventador.

Judging by the patent pictures, the new model does indeed look longer, wider and flatter than the Huracan, while still exhibiting Lamborghini’s current design language.

Details are still scant and best taken with a large pinch of salt, but it’s suggested that the Centenario could produce more than 750bhp and be limited to a production run of between just 20 and 40.

Potentially the same ultra-exclusive model that Lamborghini showed to a private group of VIPs at Pebble Beach last year via a hologram, it’s expected to command a price of around $2.45 million.

Further details have yet to emerge, but given that several rumours suggest it could appear in the flesh as soon as the Geneva show next month, it’s likely more will be known soon.
