Nearly three quarters of drivers don't use their in-car tech

Nearly three quarters of drivers in the UK admit that they don’t use the technological features in their cars, according to new statistics.

A survey from servicing booking site BookMyGarage.com found that 73 per cent of people don’t fully understand how to use the high-tech kit in their car, and therefore don’t use it.

This comes despite more than half of them saying that one of the major influencing factors on buying their car was the strength of the technology and features that it had.

Karen Rotberg, BookMyGarage director, said: “With advanced vehicle technology on the rise, it's important that people are aware of the features their car offers as they can make the difference both financially and in terms of safety.

“What is particularly interesting from the findings is that so many car owners claim they specifically chose the car they did because of its features, yet lots haven't got to grips with them or don't use them - which is a shame considering a car is one of the biggest investments an adult will make.”

Tyre pressure monitoring systems, cruise control and stability control are just some of the things that put drivers’ heads in a spin, alongside parking sensors and other features.

Of all of the technologies available, only 45 per cent said that they regularly use between three and four, while nearly a fifth said that they only use one or two of the driver aids in their car.

According to the survey, cruise control was the thing most likely to confuse drivers, and therefore the one most often ignored. Eco-settings and Bluetooth came in at a solid second and third place respectively.
