Lexus has revealed the UX ‘urban crossover’, which will get its full public unveiling at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show next week.

The new model joins the mid-size NX and large RX in the Japanese brand’s line-up, and leaps head-first into an ever-growing premium compact SUV segment.

With rivals such as the Audi Q2 and BMW X2 to compete against, the UX will join the battle for sector dominance later this year, with the full model shown for the first time on March 6.

Taking in Lexus’s recognisable spindle grille, sharp lines on the front and a compact shell, the UX sits lower to the ground than most SUVs – meaning a lower centre of gravity and better handling.

Built on an all-new platform, the UX has an extremely rigid body that means it is safe in a crash situation.

Although images of the interior are yet to be unveiled, the UX will have a driver-focused cockpit fitted with high-end materials and trims – as is the way with Lexus models.

Pricing and specification are expected to be announced at Geneva alongside the new model.
