New BMW 2 Series teased as coupe completes final rounds of testing

The new model will be BMW’s most affordable sporting model

BMW has revealed a new set of teaser images of its upcoming 2 Series as the coupe gears up for its debut this summer,

The 2 Series is essentially the two-door version of the 1 Series, and will be available as both a coupe and convertible, with the former variant set to debut first.

Though the model – which has just finished its final round of testing – is heavily camouflaged, the car appears to have grown in size while adopting a more angular look than its predecessor. Like the latest 1 Series, it’s also set to get a bolder front end design with a larger grille.

Unlike the 1 Series, the 2 Series is set to be rear-wheel-drive, though xDrive versions capable of delivering power to all four wheels are set to be available.

BMW is promising a sportier drive thanks to ‘fascinating cornering dynamics, optimised traction in all weather and road conditions and perfectly balanced ride comfort’.

The top M240i xDrive model is set to get a significant bump of power, with its new in-line six-cylinder petrol engine set to produce 369bhp – 34bhp more than its predecessor. The model is also set to just be available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A range of cheaper and more conventional petrol and diesel options are still likely to be offered, though.

The new 2 Series is set to be unveiled in July, with first deliveries expected before the end of the year.
