New engine options for Mercedes-Benz CLS and E-Class

Additions to the E-Class Coupe, Cabriolet and All-Terrain, as well as the CLS, will be delivered from October.

Mercedes-Benz has updated the engines available to E-Class and CLS models, with changes made to the E-Class Coupe, Cabriolet and All-Terrain.

Both the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet have received two engine upgrades, with the petrol E 450 4Matic replacing the E 400 4Matic, and the E 400 d 4Matic comes in instead of the E 350 d 4Matic.

2018 Mercedes E-Class Coupe

First used in the CLS 450 4Matic, the new petrol engine E 450 4Matic employs the brand’s EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. The engine itself produces 362bhp and 500Nm of torque, while the EQ Boost system adds an additional 21bhp and 250Nm of torque – as well as improving the vehicle’s performance and fuel efficiency.

The Coupe version can get from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds, while the Cabriolet can do the same sprint in 5.6 seconds. Both have an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

Both models also get the E 400 d option, which uses a 3.0-litre diesel engine that makes 335bhp and 700Nm of torque, and takes the Coupe and Cabriolet from 0-60mph in around five seconds. Both are limited to a top speed of 155mph.

2018 Mercedes CLS

In the All-Terrain, Mercedes-Benz has replaced the E 350 d 4Matic with the E 400 d 4Matic, which uses a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine producing 335bhp and 700Nm of torque. The sprint from 0-60mph is over in 5.2 seconds and it is limited to 155mph.

For the CLS, the 350 petrol engine has been added to extend the range available, which uses the EQ Boost system to supplement the 295bhp output of the four-cylinder unit with an additional 14bhp and 150Nm of torque. The CLS 350 can go from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155mph.

The E-Class 450 4Matic models start from £50,900 for the Coupe and £55,395 for the Cabriolet, while the E 400d 4Matic All-Terrain starts from £64,445. For the CLS 350, Mercedes has priced it from £52,625. Available to buy now, deliveries of these new models are expected from October.
