New entry-level 2020 Volkswagen Arteon will be even more affordable

Small revisions have also been made elsewhere in the range as part of 2020 updates.

Volkswagen has added a new entry-level SE grade to the Arteon range – making this four-door saloon less expensive than before.

The Arteon sits above the Passat in VW’s line-up, and is the German manufacturer’s flagship saloon in the UK. This stylish model reached showrooms in 2017, but from launch it was only available in high-spec Elegance and R-Line trims.

These two trims remain, but slotting in underneath is the new SE grade, which is priced from £33,085.

For the time being, the SE grade will only be offered with a 187bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. A new fleet-friendly 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine will be added in a few months’ time. This is expected to make the Arteon even more affordable.

Despite being the base model, SE still features 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and an eight-inch touchscreen to name but a few features.

The Elegance and R-Line trim levels also feature an updated 9.2-inch touchscreen, which is based on a new MIB3 operating system – as seen in the facelifted Passat and models such as the new Skoda Scala. The aforementioned 2.0-litre diesel engine also now comes with cylinder deactivation technology. This helps to cut CO2 emissions and subsequently bring road tax costs down.

Joe Laurence, Arteon product manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “With luxurious Elegance and sporty R-Line, the current Arteon trim levels offer a choice to those in the market for a sleekly designed fastback. One is sporty, but not at the expense of comfort; the other offers affordable luxury without compromising driving pleasure. These trim levels represent even better value with the addition of new standard equipment for the new model year.

“Now, the new SE trim offers a third, value-driven option to the line-up – providing an Arteon to drivers who want the best of both worlds.”

The updated Arteon range is available to order from this week.
