New Maserati GranTurismo coming in 2018

A new-generation Maserati GranTurismo is in development and is set to be released in 2018.

This has been revealed by Maserati’s region manager for Northern Europe, Peter Denton, who was speaking at the recent UK launch of the all-new Maserati Levante SUV. Denton said that both the GranTurismo coupe and its GranCabrio convertible counterpart will both arrive in the same year.

Not much in the way of details have been revealed on the new GranTurismo yet, but it is reported that the next-generation of the sports car will retain a lot of the same basic ingredients as the current car.

That makes it likely that the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio will continue to use a Ferrari-sourced V8 petrol engine. The 3.9-litre turbocharged unit found in the Ferrari 488 GTB is a strong contender in regards what engine will feature in the new Maserati.

Denton has also revealed that Maserati plan to turn its Maserati Alfieri concept into a production. The 2+2 coupe grand tourer is expected to arrive in 2019, a year after the launch of the new GranTurismo. A fully-electric version of the Alfieri will reportedly be added by 2020.

The recently launched Maserati Levante meanwhile is available in Britain now priced from £54,335 and it is the Italian manufacturer’s first production SUV.
