In the month since it was released for sale, Nissan has confirmed its new Leaf is the fastest-selling zero-emission currently available in Europe.
The Japanese manufacturer said that the all-electric hatchback has been ordered more than 20,000 times by European customers since it went on sale last month – meaning an order has been placed every 12 minutes.
Since the first-generation model was released back in 2010, more than 300,000 Leafs have been sold across Europe – making it the most popular EV currently on sale in the continent.
The new Leaf comes with innovations such as the ePedal, which can control both acceleration and braking for the 40kWh powertrain, and the ProPilot driver assistance setup – which employs cruise control, radars and cameras to drive the vehicle in congestion and maintain the distance to vehicles in front.

On the NEDC testing cycle, the new version is said to have a range of 235 miles and a top speed of 89mph. Depending on the connection, the Leaf can be fully charged in seven and a half hours, and can be charged to 80 per cent in an hour using a 50kW fast charger.
