New Porsche 911 GT3 to get 4.0-litre engine and a manual gearbox

It seems as though Porsche is finally taking the advice of fans on board, as the upcoming 2017 911 GT3 will get a new naturally-aspirated engine, as well as a manual gearbox.

Previous GT3s got the option of a seven-speed PDK automatic only, while the fact that the regular 911 is now turbocharged for the first time caused serious concern amongst enthusiasts.

However, after the huge success of last year’s 911 R - essentially a stripped-back, manual-only version of the GT3 - Porsche has now seen fit to bring the manual back to the car, according to an Autocar report.

As well as that, the new GT3 will also get a new naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine, developed off the back of the engine that was used in the 911 R.

Performance figures have yet to be released, but the rumours suggest it’ll produce upwards of 500bhp and will be able to rev all the way to 9,000rpm.

Porsche is also reportedly planning a new version of the mighty 911 GT2 RS, which will apparently get a 650bhp twin-turbocharged engine, along with an updated incarnation of the Cayman GT4.
