New SEAT Leon facelift for 2017

New SEAT Leon facelift for 2017

SEAT is revamping its Leon hatchback for 2017 with a series of updates including a new engine and fresh design tweaks.

The SEAT Leon is getting some minor tweaks in order to keep the popular hatchback fresh for 2017.

In many ways, the Leon’s new facelift is similar to what its smaller Ibiza sibling received earlier this year, with most emphasis given to revamping its technology and engine range.

Aesthetically, the changes are minute, with a slightly stretched grille that sits above a reshaped front bumper. There are also an array of new body colours and alloy wheel designs to choose from.

New 115bhp 1.0-litre TSI

Under the bonnet is a new 115bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol, a popular VW Group engine already praised in the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. Another popular VW Group engine, the 113bhp 1.6-litre TDI is also expected to join the Leon range.

From a technology and kit point of view, there is now an electric handbrake, new seat upholsteries, wireless phone charging and more ambient lighting, giving a plusher interior feel. There is also a new flagship XCELLENCE trim that adds more luxurious features.

When is it coming?

The new updates for the Leon start with the five door hatchback but will soon spread across all Leon models, including the coupe-esque three-door Leon SC and the hot hatch Leon Cupra.

The new 2017 SEAT Leon will go on sale in February 2017 and is expected to be priced similarly to the current Leon model, at around £17,400 for the three door model.
