New SsangYong SUV will be unveiled at Seoul Motor Show

SsangYong has announced that it will unveil a new flagship large SUV at the Seoul Motor Show towards the end of this month.

Codenamed the Y400, the new SUV is believed to be the replacement for the aging Rexton and draws heavy inspiration from the LIV-2 concept unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last year.

The Korean manufacturer says that it “blends drivability with high levels of safety”, and that it will be available with a choice of either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Clocking in at 4,850mm long, 1,920mm wide and 1,800mm high, it’s got a 2,865mm wheelbase and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq.

SsangYong also says that it’s the world’s first car to be constructed using a quad-frame body structure made from 1.5Gpa giga-steel for improved body strength but a reduction in weight.

There’s not much else known about the upcoming SUV yet, but it’s due to go on sale in its home market during the first half of this year and it’ll come to the UK by the end of 2017.
