New Teslas Are No Longer Free to Charge

Tesla has announced that its network of superchargers, many of which span the length of the UK, will no longer be free to use for new Tesla customers.

What about if I already own a Tesla?

Current Tesla owners, or those who take delivery of a new Tesla before April 2017 (or order one before January 2017) will still be able to reap the benefits of the free supercharger network incentive.

Those that purchase a Tesla after this time however, will have to pay a fee for using it, meaning budding UK owners of the Model 3, which is set to be launched next year, will miss out. This could lead to an influx in Tesla sales towards the end of 2016.

Why isn't it free anymore?

The new fees for using Tesla’s supercharger network are not rooted in boosting profits. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that the new fees have been put in place to ensure further development and investment in the supercharger network.

For potential Tesla customers, the free supercharger network has been a large incentive to move into the electric vehicle market, especially with constant talk of how fees for using public charge points is set to increase.
