New Volkswagen Golf Estate prices and specs announced

The new model is more spacious and well-equipped than its predecessor

Volkswagen has announced prices and specs for its new Golf Estate, following the arrival of the eighth-generation hatchback earlier this year.

The new Golf gains a range of electrified powertrains, as well as a new digitised interior incorporating just about no physical buttons.

The German manufacturer unveiled the more spacious Estate model earlier this year, which is slightly bigger than the car it replaces – offering more rear legroom and a larger boot measuring up to 1,642 litres with the rear seats folded.

And now Volkswagen has announced the new Golf Estate will start from £24,475 – a £1,175 increase on the standard five-door Hatch.

That buys an entry-level Life model, which comes as standard with LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital dials.

Up next is the Style, which brings 17-inch alloy wheels, upgraded LED headlights, three-zone climate control and additional driver assistance technology. This trim is available from £26,765.

A sporty R-Line grade also joins the Golf Estate range for the first time – bringing a more aggressive-looking bodykit, heated sports steering wheel and configurable driving modes, with prices starting from £28,075.

At the top of the range is a rugged Alltrack model, which gains a chunkier styling kit and is just available with a top-spec 197bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine, which comes with four-wheel-drive and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Elsewhere in the range, other engines available include a 108bhp 1.0-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit with either 128bhp or 148bhp. These come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, though a seven-speed DSG automatic can also be specified. Choose the latter and it also comes with mild-hybrid technology. A 2.0-litre diesel is also offered with outputs of either 113bhp or 148bhp.

Order books for the new Golf Estate are now open, with first deliveries expected at the start of next year.
