New Volvo XC60 gets Polestar performance boost

The new Volvo XC60 SUV range will soon be available with a performance upgrade pack courtesy of Polestar.

Volvo’s new XC60 SUV has received a performance upgrade package from the Swedish manufacturer’s performance division Polestar. The upgrade pack, available on multiple specifications of the new XC60, can boost the power output to up to 415bhp.

Although Polestar are set to focus exclusively on electric performance cars in the future, Volvo’s sub-brand has for now given the recently-launched XC60's petrol and diesel engines a boost.

The Polestar upgrades are available on the new XC60 when picking either the D4 or D5 2.0-litre diesel engines, the T5 2.0-litre petrol engine or the T8 petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.

Whatever the engine choice, the upgrades from Polestar focus on boosting the engine’s performance as well as the accelerator response, off-accelerator response and the gearshift speed and hold.

In regards the power output increases, the XC60 D5 gets 236bhp instead of 231bhp with the Polestar upgrades, while the flagship T8 version of the Volvo sees its output go up from 401bhp to 415bhp. The pure electric range of the T8 remains officially 28 miles.

The Vice President of Research and Development at Polestar, Henrik Fries, said: “Our goal is to create useable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience.”

Expect pricing and the release date for the new XC60’s Polestar upgrades to be announced in the near future.
