Next-generation Ford Mondeo set to launch in 2021

The new large model is likely to adopt crossover-inspired styling.

The all-new version of the Ford Mondeo is set to be launched as early as the start of next year.

According to Autocar, which has seen a new parts tooling catalogue, the next Ford Mondeo is set for an early 2021 launch.

The documents reveal that the model is likely to sit on a new suspension setup – one that maximises space, meaning that a hybrid version is likely again.

The current 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol-electric setup Is likely to be ditched in favour of a new more powerful and efficient 2.5-litre petrol hybrid setup – one that’s underpinning the new Kuga Hybrid, as well as electrified versions of the S-Max and Galaxy from 2021. A plug-in hybrid with an electric range of around 30 miles could also follow.

As revealed previously by Autocar, the new Mondeo is expected to receive more crossover-inspired styling cues – more than likely given raised suspension and additional plastic cladding to give it a more rugged look than the current Mondeo’s conventional styling.

This is something that Ford hopes will remedy the Mondeo’s falling sales, with registrations declining amid dwindling demand for large saloon-like hatchbacks. Despite this, the Mondeo is likely to continue being offered in both hatchback and estate guises.
