Nissan GT-R facelift set for New York reveal

An updated Nissan GT-R for 2016 is on its way and will debut in New York.

Nissan has released a teaser image indicating that an updated, facelifted version of its GT-R sports car will be revealed at the New York motor show next week.

The first press preview day at this year’s New York motor show takes place on March 23rd and Nissan hints that this is the date the updated GT-R will be presented to the public for the first time.

The teaser image Nissan has released shows the rear of the car but doesn’t really show off any of the detailing, other than the GT-R’s distinct circular taillights.

Possible new tweaks

Nissan’s GT-R started production all the way back in 2007, and arrived to European markets in 2009. Since then the car has been constantly updated by Nissan with performance and handling tweaks on pretty much an annual basis.

What is set to be revealed at New York next week is likely another tweaked version of the GT-R with potentially less overall weight and a little extra power. Currently the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine used in the GT-R delivers 542bhp.

Previous updates to the GT-R have included suspension, tyre and brake upgrades and the new update could feature some styling tweaks and aerodynamic alterations, though not necessarily anything particularly radical.

Another area Nissan could choose to focus on with its latest updated GT-R is to improve standard kit, by adding more in-car gadgets to keep up with the standards set by other modern sports cars.
