Nissan Qashqai hits production landmark in record time

The Nissan Qashqai has reached the half million production landmark quicker than any other British-built car has done before.

The Nissan Qashqai has become the fastest ever British-built vehicle to reach the half million production milestone.

Built at Nissan’s Sunderland production plant since January 2014, a new Qashqai on ‘Line 1’ at the factory has been made every 62 seconds on average.

In total it has taken the latest Qashqai just 21 months to hit the half million production landmark. That easily beats the previous British records set by the Mk1 Ford Cortina, which reached half a million production in 34 months. It also beats the Austin/Morris 1100/1300, which hit the same production figure in 29 months.

Of the 500,000 new Qashqai models that have been built, nearly 100,000 of them have been delivered to customers in Britain. According to the Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders, the Nissan Qashqai is currently the fifth best-selling new car in Britain in 2015-to-date, after eight months of the year.

It’s not just in Britain where the latest Qashqai is proving a hit. Nissan also reveals it is the best-selling crossover in Europe with France, Italy and Spain accounting for nearly a third of global sales. Currently in demand in 84 countries, total global production of the Qashqai has reached 2.5 million.
