Nissan X-Trail facelift adds upgrades, semi-autonomous coming in 2018

The Nissan X-Trail is getting styling and tech updates and the improved SUV will launch later this summer. Read on for more details.

Nissan has revealed official images and details of its facelifted X-Trail SUV, which will go on sale from this August.

The largest of Nissan’s SUVs and sitting above the Juke and Qashqai, the facelifted X-Trail is available in five and seven-seater guises and has received a raft of styling and equipment changes.

Engines for the updated Nissan X-Trail line-up are unchanged, so the SUV remains available with 1.6-litre diesel with 128bhp, a 2.0-litre diesel with 175bhp and a 1.6-litre petrol unit with 161bhp. An automatic gearbox can be swapped for the standard six-speed manual and four-wheel drive is also available when opting for either diesel engine.

In terms of what has changed, the exterior styling now includes a winder front grille, redesigned bumpers, redesigned headlamps with new daytime running lights and new foglights and new alloy wheel designs.

Also new are the full LED taillights, some additional chrome detailing and four new paint jobs to choose including Orange Pearl, Red Pearl, Blue Pearl Metallic and Dark Brown Pearl.

Inside, the refreshed X-Trail’s interior features a new flat-bottomed steering wheel which has been designed to make it easier to read the instrument panel and comes with button controls.

The touchscreen system has also been updated with some small improvements and DAB is also now standard across the X-Trail line-up. A new eight-speaker Bose audio system is now also standard.

The five-seater version of the X-Trail also has a slightly bigger boot than before, offering 565 litres capacity as standard, meaning a 15 litres increase. A hands-free tailgate operated with the wave of a foot under the rear bumper is also now available.

From 2018 onwards, new X-Trail models will also be available with Nissan’s ProPilot semi-autonomous driving software. This technology will be able to control the X-Trail’s steering, accelerator and brakes while in a single lane on a highway or motorway whether the traffic is heavy or light.

Pricing for the updated X-Trail will be confirmed closer to the car’s launch date.
