Old vs new Mazda CX-3 compared

We take a look at the new CX-3 and see what changes have been made over the previous one.

This year, Mazda brought out a facelift of its CX-3 crossover – a car that on the surface may look unchanged. With this in mind, we’re going to dig a bit deeper and discover the upgrades the new CX-3 has to offer.

The CX-3 is the smallest Mazda SUV you can buy and is an affordable and practical car. This new version sharpens everything up and throws in some more useful features for the driver and passengers.

Design

Little has been changed in terms of the CX-3’s design, which is a good thing. The car naturally stands out from the crossover crowd by being tastefully unique with a striking, yet refined, look.

The most major and notable change is the new grille, which is slightly darker to emphasise the attractive floating roof design.

Technical Improvements

Some of these technical improvements include improved fuel economy for the 2.0-litre petrol unit, tweaked suspension to make the CX-3’s ride more comfortable than the old one, and a brand new diesel engine.

Parts like the suspension have been carried over from the smaller Mazda2, but it has been overhauled to better suit the CX-3’s size and weight. The steering is also like the Mazda2’s, though again it has been revised for this facelifted model.

Interior Improvements

There are some upgrades inside the cabin as well, such as the 7.0-inch colour touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay, and increased sound deadening. It must also be said that the boot space is generous for a car of its size.

Another new thing is the added armrest with cup holders integrated into the rear middle seat – a handy feature the old car didn’t have.

These numerous changes and tweaks Mazda has made to the CX-3 has resulted in an improved crossover that simply builds upon the original’s impressive capabilities – all for a competitive starting price of £18,735.
