Only one in ten parents think they could pass driving test now

Just one in ten parents who drive believe they could pass a driving test if they took one today, according to a recent poll.

A recent survey of parents that can drive has found that only one in ten believe they could pass a driving test if they took it today.

The AA polled 7,103 of its members with children, asking them if they felt they could pass a driving test now. Only 13 per cent of the respondents felt they could pass a driving test if they did one now.

The survey also asked the parents about their feelings on their children starting to drive. Six in ten said that when it comes to getting a car for their kids, they would favour safety over cost. However, 58 per cent admitted they didn’t know how they would check for the safety performance of a vehicle.

60 per cent of the parent surveyed said they would feel more comfortable if their children used P-plates when they’ve only recently become a qualified driver.

Just under half also said they wouldn’t allow friends of their children to be in the car straight after passing. 27 per cent even said that they would feel unsafe in the passenger seat of their child’s car.

On a more positive note though, 34 per cent surveyed said they would be happy to buy a car for their kids as a reward for good A-level results.
