Order books open for 2018 Volkswagen Touareg

The latest version of the large SUV will start from £51,595 and will be fitted as standard with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel.

Volkswagen has opened the order books for the brand’s latest generation of the Touareg SUV.

Prices for the flagship model start from £51,595 and for that price, models come with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and a raft of useful features.

The power unit is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive, and produces 282bhp. Another version of the V6 diesel will be available from the autumn with 227bhp, while a 3.0-litre V6 petrol will be introduced next year with 334bhp.

A plug-in hybrid version is also on the way to the European market, but a release date is yet to be set.

Available in three trim levels – SEL at £51,595, R-Line from £55,095 and the £58,195 R-Line Tech – each model comes with adaptive cruise control, two-zone climate control, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, LED head and tail lights, Bluetooth and the Discover Pro infotainment system with gesture control.

Customers can choose to fit the new Innovision Cockpit display setup, which adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen and a 15-inch central touchscreen that is angled towards the driver so everything is well within reach.

The Touareg is also available with many driver assistance systems, including night vision, traffic jam and roadwork lane assist, front cross traffic assist, active all-wheel steering and roll stabilisation.

With the Touareg increasing in size as well, this generation offers 810 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and this can be extended to 1,800 litres when the back bench is folded down.
