From today, customers can order Volkswagen’s latest iteration of the GTI as the Up! GTI goes on sale.
Starting from £13,750, the hot supermini is one of the smallest GTIs yet and draws inspiration from the original Golf GTI – with the Up! GTI weighing just 1,070kg and is lowered 15mm to hark back to the performance of the Mk1 GTI.
The Up! joins the Polo and two versions of the Golf in the current GTI line-up, and it is available in either a three- or five-door body.
Powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged, three-cylinder engine, the Up! GTI has 114bhp at its disposal and it is all driven through the front wheels with a six-speed manual transmission.
Head of marketing at Volkswagen UK, Geraldine Ingham, said: “The buzz around our newest GTI is remarkable, and rightly so. This is a wonderful little hot hatch that simply makes driving truly fun once again.
“The fact that it is so accessibly priced, and yet so generously equipped, will I’m sure only add to our charming new little pocket rocket’s irresistible appeal.”
Coming with plenty of dynamic design features, such as 17-inch alloy wheels, chromed tipped exhausts and sporty paint and decal options, the Up! GTI looks the part, and it also comes with quality features, such as a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, the iconic red-checked upholstery and a five-inch multimedia touchscreen.
