Range-topping trim can be had from £26,140.

Volkswagen is now taking orders for its Golf R-Line, with the range-topping version of the hatchback available from £26,140.

Building further on Life and Style grades, R-Line brings a unique styling package with a sportier edge as well as 17-inch ‘Valencia’ alloy wheels and rear-tinted glass. LED head- and taillights round out the look.

Sports suspension is also added to the model, lowering the car by 15mm, while its electronic steering system is altered for a more engaging driver experience.

Inside the R-Line, sports seats are fitted as standard and upholstered in ‘Sardegna’. A leather steering wheel is included with R-Line badging, while ambient lighting features too. There’s also a 10.25-inch Active Info Display fitted for no extra cost, replacing traditional dials and gauges, as well as a 10-inch central infotainment system.

Also being introduced to the Golf line-up is a mild-hybrid ‘eTSI’ powertrain. This sees the 1.5-litre, 148bhp petrol unit linked up to a 48-volt belt-driven starter motor which is said to improve efficiency by as much as 10 per cent over a standard petrol engine.

It’s available on Life, Style and R-Line grades, with pricing for eTSI models kicking off at £26,375.
