Order books open for new Alpine sports car, prices start from around £46,000

Customers can now officially place an order for the first all-new car from French sports car manufacturer Alpine in 21 years.

The new Alpine has still yet to be officially unveiled and hasn’t even had its name revealed, but buyers can reserve the limited-edition Premiére Edition of the car via an app accessible from Alpine’s website.

Limited to 1,955 models as a tip of the hat to the year Alpine’s founder Jean Rédélé was born, the Premiére Edition will feature higher specification than the standard versions which will follow.

Prices have yet to be announced, but the new Alpine car will be priced between €55,000 and €60,000 in Europe, so that suggests a starting price of around £46,000 here in the UK.

Customers can secure their car with a £1,700 deposit using the app, and can even select which number they want to reserve, which will then be etched onto a commemorative plate.

The original Alpine cars were renowned for their incredible light weight, nimble handling and their various motorsport successes in the world of circuit racing and rallying.

However, production ceased in 1995 before the brand was revitalised by parent company Renault several years ago, with a whole range of new Alpine-badged cars expected to be in the works.

Very little is known about the first new model however, other than it will feature a mid-engined design to rival the likes of the Porsche Cayman, and will stick closely to Alpine’s lightweight tradition.

Alpine has confirmed that the car will be able to sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds, and it’s expected to be powered by an engine derived from the turbocharged 1.6-litre motor from the Renaultsport Clio.

You’ll have to wait a bit longer for the full details including specifications, pricing and a release date, which are expected to be unveiled early next year.
