Order books to open for Tesla Model 3

Ahead of its official unveiling on March 31st, electric car manufacturer Tesla has released details of the pre-order process for its new Model 3.

Designed as a more affordable alternative to the Model S, the new Model 3 will reportedly be a “smaller and lower cost” all-electric saloon, with production due to start late next year.

Tesla says that UK buyers will have to put a £1,000 deposit down when its order books open at the end of the month in order to secure their car by visiting their nearest Tesla dealership.

Prospective buyers can also register their interest and pay their deposit online via Tesla’s website, though traffic to the website is expected to be high upon the car’s unveiling.

In order to keep things as fair as possible, each region will get a separate waiting list and existing Tesla owners will get priority, meaning that Model S or Model X owners will get their car quicker.

A statement on the manufacturer’s website said: “We recognize that everyone wants to get their Model 3 as quickly as possible. Our overarching goal is to maximize total customer happiness within the bounds of what is physically possible.”

Still not much is known about the Model 3 in terms of specifications or prices, but it’s set to be a landmark launch for Tesla, which hopes the car’s lower cost will appeal to mainstream buyers.

Rumoured to cost from approximately £22,900, first deliveries of the Tesla Model 3 will begin in America, before the car is rolled out across Europe around early 2018.
