Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S: Hottest 911 gets hotter

The fastest 911 has just gotten faster still after Porsche unveiled the new 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S models hot on the heels of the freshly-updated Carrera models.

Not to be confused with the rest of Porsche’s newly-turbocharged 911 range, instead this is the 911 Turbo, and now it’s slightly sharper and even more heart-stoppingly rapid than ever before.

Available as a coupe or convertible, Porsche’s engineers uprated the 911’s twin-turbo 3.8-litre flat-six engine to achieve a maximum output of 533bhp in the standard Turbo and 572bhp in S guise.

Now 20bhp more powerful than the previous 911 Turbo, courtesy of Porsche’s unique variable-turbine turbochargers, the engines also now have a boost function to further reduce turbo lag.

As a result, the standard 911 Turbo is fast enough to make the 0-62mph benchmark sprint in 3.0 seconds flat, while the Turbo S can reach 62mph from a standstill in an incredible 2.9 seconds.

Top speed clocks in at 198mph for the Turbo and 205mph for the Turbo S, while Porsche also stresses that the Turbo range is more efficient than ever and able to return up to 31mpg.

Porsche has also updated the appearance of the 911 Turbo, with a redesigned front bumper that sports side-mounted airblades to improve aerodynamic efficiency and front LED lights.

Riding on new 20-inch alloy wheels, both the Turbo and Turbo S feature the same three-dimensional rear lights, dual tailpipes and the same new engine lid grille design as the new Carrera models.

Inside, the 911 Turbo comes with the same steering wheel as the 918 Spyder, plus the new Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with sat-nav and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Other features include selectable driving modes to adjust the car’s setup to the road conditions, lane change assist and a Bose audio system as standard, with the option of a higher-spec Burmester stereo.

Available to order now, the new Porsche 911 Turbo range is priced between £126,925 for the Turbo coupe and £154,614 for the Turbo S convertible, and first deliveries are due to arrive in January.
