Porsche Macan GTS makes public debut

The Porsche Macan GTS has been revealed to the public for the first time at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. It features styling updates and engine and chassis upgrades.

In terms of where it fits in the Macan range, the GTS slots in ahead of the standard and S models and behind only the Turbo version.

Styling changes which make the GTS stand out include 20-inch matt black alloy wheels, gloss black detailing on the top half of the exterior and the GTS-badges sports seats.

Like the Macan S, the new GTS uses a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Power output for the GTS, however, is increased by 20bhp compared to the S, giving the car 355bhp in total.

Upgraded brakes, made to cope with the extra power, also feature for the new Macan GTS. Like the Macan S, the GTS also has the Porsche Traction Management system, which provides variable power distribution to all four wheels.

The 0-62mph sprint time for the Macan GTS is just 5.2 seconds, which is two tenths of a second less than the S model.

The increase in speed has led to a slight drop in fuel economy though: the Macan GTS records 31.4mpg combined, 0.7mpg less than the Macan S. CO2 emissions also increase slightly by 5g/km to a total of 212g/km.

Customers can reduce the GTS’s benchmark sprint further to exactly five seconds if they choose the optional £729 Sport Chrono package.

As well as making the car faster, this package also revises the throttle mapping, transmission shift program and the engagement point for the traction control system.

Standard equipment for the Macan GTS includes LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity and an electrically-operated tailgate.

On sale in Britain from 28 October 2015, the Porsche Macan GTS is priced from £55,188.
