Porsche unveils all-wheel drive turbo 911 Carrera and Targa

The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Targa 4 models now come with the new twin-turbo 3.0-litre engines as Porsche moves the entire 911 range towards forced induction.

With four-wheel drive being an option that more than a third of 911 buyers specify on their cars, the marque has rolled out the new turbo flat-six engines across virtually the entire model line-up.

Prices for the four-wheel drive 911 models range between £81,398 for the base 911 Carrera 4 and £99,684 for the range-topping 911 Targa 4S. Orders are open now, ahead of first deliveries early next year.

The bi-turbo 3.0-litre engines produce 365bhp in the base Carrera and Targa 4 models, while the S versions raise output to 414bhp, a 20bhp boost over the outgoing naturally-aspirated engines.

Coupled with a four-wheel drive powertrain and seven-speed automatic gearbox, the 911 Carrera 4 can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds, while the 4S takes only 3.8 seconds.

Top speeds vary depending on model, but range between 178mph for the base Carrera 4 and 189mph for the Carrera 4S, while fuel economy clocks in at a maximum of 36mpg.

As well as the new turbocharged engines, which feature on virtually all new 911s for the first time, the four-wheel drive variants get a chassis that’s 10mm lower than before, plus aesthetic updates.

Along with the four-point daytime running lights that feature on the latest 911 range, the all-wheel drive models get rear wings that arch out by an additional 44mm, plus a distinctive rear light strip.

Rear-axle steering is available as an option to further enhance driveability, while all 911s now come with the Porsche Communication infotainment system and selectable driving modes as standard.
