Prices announced for Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet

The new model is the only drop-top crossover on sale.

Volkswagen has announced the prices and specs for its new oddball T-Roc Cabriolet – the brand’s only convertible.

Based on the T-Roc crossover, the Cabriolet has a longer body and wheelbase to allow for more passenger room and to accommodate the model’s folding canvas room that can be lowered in nine seconds and raised in 11.

Two petrol engines are available – a 113bhp 1.0-litre or a 148bhp 1.5-litre. Each comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, though a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission is available on the larger engine.

Prices start from £26,750 for Design version, which comes as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring and sat nav and adaptive cruise control to name but a few features.

Those looking for something a bit sportier can choose the R-Line version, which is available from £31,920. This adds larger 19-inch alloy wheels, digital dials and an R-Line styling kit, as well as sports seats and LED headlights. The suspension has also been lowered by 20mm.

Buyers can choose it in two new shades exclusive to the Cabriolet – Ivy Green and Smokey Grey.

Claire Haynes, T-Roc product manager, said: “The T-Roc Cabriolet injects even more sunshine into the T-Roc formula, complementing its fun-to-drive character, the vibrancy of its paint palette and its numerous personalisation options.

“It’s also the latest member of an ever-growing SUV family at Volkswagen, and is uniquely positioned to pick up where the Golf and Beetle Cabriolet models left off.”

The T-Roc Cabriolet sits in its own unique category – being the only convertible crossover and SUV on sale, and fulfilling the small niche left by the Range Rover Evoque Convertible.

It’s available to order now, though there is no time on when deliveries will start.
