MG has announced pricing for its new ZS EV, with the model starting from £21,495.
Based on the standard ZS, which is available with conventional engines, this new electric model is the brand’s first EV.
As part of an introductory offer, the ZS EV is also one of the most affordable new electric cars on sale, with prices starting from £21,495. This price is offered to the first 1,000 retail customers, which also includes a free home charging point and installation.
That starting price is inclusive of a £7,000 discount – half of that coming from MG itself, and the remaining being from a government grant. This means that once the first 1,000 have sold, the price will jump to £24,995.
The ZS EV features a 44.5kWh battery and a 141bhp electric motor, which produces 353Nm of torque. An electric range of 163 miles is possible, while it comes fully-equipped for rapid charging capability. Three levels of regenerative braking can also increase the range further.
Impressively, the EV offers minimal practicality disadvantages over the standard car, with the battery pack placed underneath the car to minimise any impact on cabin or boot space.
As with the MG ZS and MG3, this new EV will come with a seven-year warranty, which also covers the battery.
Standard equipment is impressive, with the ZS EV gaining a suite of safety kit – such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. It also comes with a panoramic glass roof and an eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring.
Unlike other electric cars, the ZS EV’s styling is quite reserved. New 17-inch alloy wheels, a Pimlico Blue paint colour and a charging point hidden behind the grille are the few signs that this is different to the standard crossover.
