Pricing for Volkswagen Golf estate trio revealed

Volkswagen has revealed pricing and spec details for its three new Golf estate models, which include the Golf Alltrack, the Golf GTD estate and Golf R estate. All three derivatives of VW’s family car are available to order now. The first deliveries of these three new Golf estates in Britain are expected this August.

The Golf Alltrack is a more rugged variant of the VW estate and its set-up to cope with driving on grass, dirt tracks and other low-grip surfaces. The Alltrack features 4MOTION four-wheel drive as standard, along with a higher ground clearance by up to 20mm. It also adds flared wheel arches and side sills plus redesigned and tougher bumpers, for additional protection when driving off the road. It's closely related to the SEAT Leon X-PERIENCE.

Three diesel engines are offered with the new Golf Alltrack, starting with a 109bhp 1.6-litre TDI priced from £26,790. There’s also a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI available from £28,155 and a 182bhp 2.0-litre TDI for £30,595. The 1.6 and 148bhp 2.0 diesels use a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 182bhp TDI utilises a six-speed DSG automatic ‘box. The 109bhp version of the Alltrack is the most efficient, returning 58.9mpg combined and emitting 124g/km in CO2.

The GTD, meanwhile, is one of two new performance derivatives for the Golf estate. It is essentially a more practical version of the front-wheel drive, diesel-run Golf GTD hatchback which is already on sale.

Driven by an 182bhp 2.0-litre TDI, and hooked up to a six-speed manual or auto DSG ‘box, the Golf GTD estate can cover the 0-62mph sprint in 7.9 seconds. The combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions are recorded at 64.2mpg and 115g/km respectively for the manual GTD. These figures are altered to 58.9mpg and 125g/km when using the DSG transmission. Pricing for the Golf GTD estate is set at £28,265 for the standard manual version, increasing to £29,700 when you pick the DSG ‘box.

The Golf R estate, is the new top-of-the-range derivative for this family car and is based on the hot hatch of the same name. It features a four-wheel drive powertrain, completed by a 296bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine hooked up to a six-speed DSG gearbox.

All of this gives the performance estate a 0-62mph sprint time of just 5.1 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 155mph. VW’s Golf R estate also records 40.4mpg combined and emits 164g/km.

All three of these new models are just as practical as the standard VW Golf estate, offering 605 litres of boot space as standard. With the rear seats folded flat, the total loading capacity increases to 1,620 litres.
