Production of BMW 8 Series Convertible begins

The 8 Series is built on the same production line as the 5 and 7 Series at the Dingolfing plant in Bavaria.

Following on from its unveiling last week, the 8 Series Convertible has gone into production at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Lower Bavaria.

Four months on from the series production of the 8 Series Coupe starting, the soft-top vehicle is joining its sibling on the same production line – which it also shares with the 5 Series and 7 Series.

The Dingolfing plant is used as BMW’s lead site for luxury segment production and with the 8 Series models, it is now home to the flagship line-up’s manufacturing as well.

The 8 Series Convertible can raise or lower its fabric roof in just 15 seconds at speeds up to 31mph. Customers can choose from the standard black fabric or anthracite silver effect option.

Engine options come in the form of the 840d diesel, developing 316bhp from its 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit, and the range-topping M850i, which uses a 4.4-litre V8 engine with 523bhp and 750Nm of torque. Both options are paired to an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.

Prices for the 8 Series Convertible start from £83,270, with deliveries beginning in the first half of 2018.
