An updated version of the Range Rover Sport has been revealed and will launch in the UK near the end of this year, priced from £59,700. Changes to the luxury SUV include semi-autonomous driving aids and a new 2.0-litre diesel engine.
This announcement swiftly follows the news of updates for the Range Rover for 2017 and most of the changes for the Sport model are similar.
Ingenium joins the line-up
The new engine added to the Range Rover Sport’s line-up is the Jaguar Land Rover 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel, already available for the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar XE. In the Range Rover Sport, the SD4 diesel unit produces 237bhp and leads to a zero to 60mph sprint time of eight seconds.
The official combined fuel economy for the new diesel-run Sport is 45.6mpg and CO2 emissions are recorded at 164g/km. Whereas all other Range Rover Sports have a twin pipe exhaust layout, the new Ingenium-run models will be distinguished with a single twin-exhaust at the rear.
Replacing the 3.0-litre SDV6, the Ingenium diesel serves as the new entry-level model in the Range Rover Sport range.
V6 petrol and new tech added
Another new engine joining the Range Rover Sport range is a 3.0-litre V6 petrol. Also added to the updated Range Rover, this unit produces 335bhp and it will sit below the Range Rover Sport’s 5.0-litre V8s. The new V6 gives the Sport a 0-60mph sprint time of 7.1 seconds, emits 243g/km of CO2 and officially averages 26.9mpg.
The new semi-autonomous driving aids for the Range Rover Sport include Low Traction Launch, which helps the car pull away on low-grip terrain. Other additions include autonomous emergency braking, a blind spot warning aid and an intelligent speed limiter which can restrict the car’s speed automatically.
Interior updates include a larger ten-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
