Refreshed Kia Picanto pricing announced

Pricing and specification details for the refreshed Kia Picanto have been announced as the facelifted city car goes on sale in Britain. It starts from £8,345 in three-door form or £8,545 for the five-door version.

Updates for the Picanto range this year include exterior styling updates, improved interior trim quality and an increase in standard equipment for all trim levels. All these improvements while maintaining a low price range should give the Picanto greater appeal next to its Skoda Citigo, Hyundai i10 and Citroen C1 rivals.

From launch, the refreshed Picanto will offer two petrol engines and five trim levels. The extended standard equipment for the Kia Picanto includes front electric windows, a CD/radio player with MP3 support, tinted glass and 60:40 split folding rear seats.

As was the case before its refresh, the Picanto’s standard trim is simply called ‘1’. This is followed by ‘1’ Air, available only as a five-door and priced from £9,145. Next comes the ‘SR7’ trim, which is priced from £9,845 for the three-door and £10,045 for the five-door. While all trim levels are available for the five-door Picanto, the 1 and SR7 trims are the only ones available for the three-door version.

After SR7 is the ‘2’ trim, priced from £10,145, the ‘3’ trim priced from £12,545 and finally the ‘4’ trim priced at £12,295.

The petrol engines include a 68bhp 1.0-litre, available for the 1, 1 Air, SR7 and 2 trim models. Mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, this engine gives the refreshed Picanto a 0-60mph sprint time of 13.9 seconds and returns an average fuel economy of 67.3mpg. CO2 emissions are at just 99g/km, meaning free Vehicle Excise Duty.

The other engine, available from the 2 trim upwards, is a 84bhp 1.25-litre unit linked with either the five-speed manual ‘box or an optional four-speed automatic transmission. The 0-60mph time with this engine is 11 seconds in manual form or 12.9 seconds with the automatic gearbox. Average fuel economy ranges between 50.4mpg and 68.9mpg and CO2 emissions are between 100g/km and 130g/km, depending on trim and gearbox choice.

Manual Picanto models from the 2 trim upwards benefit from Kia’s ISG stop-start engine technology.
