Renault Captur tops small crossover sales in Europe

The Renault Captur has been the best selling small crossover in Europe since it first went on sale.

The Renault Captur has been the top selling small crossover car across Europe, since it launched back in spring 2013.

Renault says the Captur has recorded over 416,000 sales across European markets in nearly two and a half years, outperforming all direct competition.

The Captur represents Renault’s first foray into the small/B-segment crossover sector. Based on the current Renault Clio supermini, the Captur also shares some components with two other current compact crossovers - the Nissan Juke and Dacia Duster.

The Captur’s last significant update in the UK market came in April earlier this year, with the addition a new diesel engine. The 109bhp 1.5-litre dCi diesel offers a 0-62mph sprint time of 11 seconds. There’s also an 89bhp version of the diesel engine. With either power output it returns an official combined fuel economy figure of 76.4mpg and CO2 emissions start below 100g/km, meaning free Vehicle Excise Duty.

Also available for the Captur is an 89bhp 0.9-litre three-cylinder petrol and an 114bhp 1.2-litre petrol. The former averages around 50mpg.

Pricing for the Renault Captur range in Britain currently starts at £14,295.

Launching now is Renault’s new, larger crossover model which sits above the Captur, called the Kadjar. Taking on the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Mazda CX-5, the Kadjar is priced from £17,995.
