Renault ZOE gains free home charger

The Renault ZOE becomes the first electric car in Britain to offer customers a free wall-box charger to have installed at home.

Owners of the all-electric Renault ZOE supermini will now be offered a domestic wall-box charger for their vehicle to be installed at home for free. This makes Renault the first manufacturer to offer a completely free home charging solution for electric car owners.

Provided by the electric vehicle charging point manufacturer, Chargemaster, the free charger for ZOE customers is a 7kW wall-box, which can fully charge a vehicle from zero to 100 per cent in about three to four hours.

The wall-box is weatherproof and therefore can be installed either indoors or outside. It is also protected by key controlled access and it’s covered by a four-year warranty – matching the vehicle’s manufacturer cover.

When the wall-box is installed, owners are eligible to apply for a POLAR Network Card. This grants access to UK’s largest public charging infrastructure comprising of over 3,000 charging points.

Earlier this month, Renault announced a series of updates for its ZOE five-door hatchback, including a new electric motor which extends the travel range by nearly 15 per cent. Nowadays the all-electric ZOE has an official travel range of up to 149 miles. This, according to Renault, translates to a real-world driving range of between 71 to 106 miles depending on conditions.

A revamped trim line-up has also been given to the Renault ZOE, which currently starts pricing at £13,445.
