Reservations open for new electric Fiat 500

Fiat’s first European EV has also been shown in hatchback form for the first time

Fiat has announced that reservations are now open for its new electric 500 city car.

Following on from the unveil of the electric convertible model back in March, the new hatchback has been shown for the first time, too.

With its 42kWh battery, Fiat claims the 500 can manage 199 miles on a single charge. It’s also equipped with 85kW rapid charging – meaning the batteries can be charged to 80 per cent in just 35 minutes.

It also gets overhauled styling next to the petrol 500 - which will remain on sale - along with additional technology – including a large new touchscreen and level 2 autonomous driving capabilities.

It’s currently just available in a special ‘La Prima’ launch edition grade, with these versions coming with a panoramic glass sunroof, a larger rear spoiler and three exclusive colours – Mineral Grey, Ocean Green and Celestial Blue. You also get LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels and ‘eco-leather’ upholstery.

Prices for the electric 500 La Prima start from £26,995, which includes the government’s electric car grant, as well as a free wallbox so that you can charge the car at home.

Reservations are now open, and no deposit is needed to secure this. Through Fiat’s UK website, you can spec the new model to your taste and choose between either the hatchback or convertible version and select your preferred dealership. Once order books are open, you will be contacted by the dealership about confirming the order, though Fiat says customers are under no obligation to carry out a purchase.
