Rolls-Royce builds exclusive electric toy car to cheer up sick kids in hospital

Here’s a nice story to warm the cockles of your heart early in the morning: Rolls-Royce has built a brilliant and exclusive electric toy car to cheer up sick kids at St Richard’s Hospital Pediatric Day Surgery Unit in Chichester.

It’s called the Rolls-Royce SRH, and it was made to allow children awaiting surgery at the hospital to drive themselves to the operating theatre to help them feel more positive before their operations.

It might technically be a toy, but don’t think for a minute that Rolls didn’t employ the same dedication and finesse to the design of the SRH as they do to the rest of their cars.

In fact, Rolls-Royce said that its designers and engineers spent a total of 400 hours creating the SRH, which comes finished in gorgeous two-tone Andalusian White and Salamanca Blue paint scheme.

Like every other Rolls-Royce car, it gets the finishing touch of a hand-painted coachline, along with self-righting wheel cap centres and the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet ornament.

Although most other Rollers get mighty V12 engines, the SRH comes powered by a 24-volt gel battery with a limited top speed of 4mph; more than enough to get to the theatre in time.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Rolls-Royce’s CEO, said: “We are a proud member of the community here in West Sussex. The Pediatric Unit at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester does such vital work in providing essential care to young people and their families.

“We hope that the Rolls‑Royce SRH will serve to make the experience for young people during treatment a little less stressful.”

Only one Rolls-Royce SRH will be built, and the official handover of the car is expected to take place later today.
