Scrappage Schemes 2018: All you need to know

Following many successful programmes last year, a number of manufacturers have extended scrappage schemes into the end of June 2018. We’ve rounded them up.

2018 UK Scrappage Schemes

Last year, a number of manufacturers introduced UK scrappage schemes in an effort to remove old, high-polluting diesel vehicles from UK roads and replace them with newer, more eco-friendly vehicles. Find out more about Euro emissions standards here

Many found success, and as a result, a number of schemes have been extended into 2018. We’ve rounded up who’s doing them, and what you need to know about the current UK scrappage schemes that are still available until the end of June.

Audi Scrappage Scheme

​Audi’s scrappage scheme, initially introduced in September, has been extended to run until the end of June 2018. To qualify for the car scrappage scheme, a new Audi vehicle must be purchased before March 31 and registered before June 30, 2018.

Customers can save up to £8,000 across the German manufacturer’s range when trading in a pre-Euro 5 emissions legislation vehicle which applies to vehicles introduced before September 2009.

BMW Scrappage scheme

​BMW's scrappage scheme has been extended to run until the end of June 2018. The BMW Scrappage Scheme coveres any Euro-4 rated diesel BMW which you have owned for at least 12 months .

To qualify for the car scrappage scheme, a new BMW vehicle must be purchased before end of June 2018 and registered before June 30, 2018.

Dacia Scrappage Scheme

Budget brand Dacia’s offerings are a far cry from expensive already, but the Romanian brand has decided to continue its scrappage scheme.

Up to £1,000 is available off the price of a Duster — excluding Access models — and a £500 discount on the Sandero will be given to anyone trading a Euro 4 or older vehicle, registered before December 31, 2009.

Ford Scrappage Scheme

Ford had the most successful start to its scrappage scheme compared with rivals. As a result, the Ford scrappage scheme has extended the scheme until the end of June 2018, with up to £4,850 off any of its models. This offers applies to pre-Euro 5 cars, with all traded-in vehicles set to be scrapped.

Hyundai Scrappage Scheme

Hyundai’s scrappage scheme offers up to £5,000 off a new vehicle if a Euro 1-4 vehicle is traded in, with vehicles up to Euro 3 scrapped. For Euro 4 cars, Hyundai will also add the trade-in value of the customer’s vehicle.

The Hyundai scrappage scheme has been extended until the end of June 2018.

Seat Scrappage Scheme

Seat has extended its car scrappage scheme until the end of June 2018, you have to have register your new SEAT by June 30 2018 to qualify.

The SEAT scrappage scheme allows pre-Euro 5 diesel vehicles, owned by the current keeper for at least six months. Savings up to £3,500 are currently on offer across a selection of brand new SEAT models.

Toyota Scrappage Scheme

 Unlike other manufacturers, the Toyota scrappage scheme has only extended until the end of January.

It does, however, offer up to £4,000 off across its range when trading in a vehicles that is seven-plus years old, owned by a customer for at least six months. The biggest discount is available on the Land Cruiser.

Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme

Running until the end of April, Volkswagen’s scrappage scheme covers both the main brand and Volkswagen Commercial vehicles. Up to £6,000 can be had off a new vehicle in its range, with the biggest savings available on the Sharan and Passat GTE. 

To be eligible, vehicles traded in must be pre-Euro 5 and owned by the current keeper for at least six months.

Kia Scrappage Scheme

Kia Rio

Kia's scrappage scheme has been extended and will now run until the end of June 2018. The brands UK scrappage scheme is currently offering £2,000 off a selection of their models. Also including Kia's 7 year warranty, this offer is available on all manufacturers models.

In order to be eligible for this offer, any part-exchange car over seven years old qualifies for Kia's scrappage allowance, the car registration must be in your name.

Mazda scrappage scheme 

Mazda 2

Mazda is now offering their scrappage scheme in 2018, they have extended their offers until the end of June 2018Available to cars registered by this time, the scheme gives you a chance to scrap your old car (petrol or diesel) and get between £3,000 and £5,500 saving off new models. 

Cars to be traded in must have been registered no later than 31st December 2009 and have been registered under your name for at least 60 days.

Mercedes-Benz Scrappage sheme

​The Meredes-Benz scrappage scheme has been extended to run until the end of June 2018 and to receive the contribution, you have to have order your new Mercedes-Benz car by the 30 June 2018.

The Mercedes-Benz Scrappage Scheme coveres any Euro-4 rated diesel or lower Mercedes-Benz model which you have owned for at least 6 months.

Mitsubishi Scrappage Scheme

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

With the Mitsubishi scrappage scheme, you can now see savings up to £6,500 on applicable Mitsubishi models up until the end of the brands scrappage scheme on the 27th March 2018. To qualify, trade in cars must comply with Euro 4 Emissions or earlier and cars must be registered no later than 31 December 2009 and registered to yourself for at least six months. 

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV offers £5,000 off the plug in hybrid and up to £6,500 when the UK Government's £2,500 plug-in car allowance is factored in.

Other savings include a £4,000 scrappage allowance towardsd the diesel Mitsubishi Outlander, savings of £3,000 towards the Mitsubishi ASX crossover and £2,000 towards the Mitsubishi Mirage

Nissan 'Switch' Scheme

Nissan Qashqai

Nissan has extended its switch scheme in the UK, offering savings up to £2,000 across selected Nissan models until the 2 April 2018. Although it's not classed as a scrappage scheme, cars to traded must qualify for Euro 4 emissions or lower and be registered no later than 31 December 2009. The main difference being that Nissan has no mention of any trade in cars being taken off the road permanently. 

 The incentives from Nissan's 'Switch' scheme currently offers £1,000 saving towards models of the Nissan Micra, Juke, Qashqai and Nissan X-Trail in the Acenta trim. £2,000 is on offer when opting for models in N-Connecta, Tekna and Tekna+ trim.

Peugeot Scrappage scheme 

Peugeot 3008

The 2018 Peugeot scrappage scheme has now been extended until 31 March 2018, with the biggest discounted saving available on the Peugeot 508 saloon or SW estate. 

Other savings from the manufacturer include £1,750 off a new Peugeot 108, while models such as the 208, 2008, 308, 308 SW and 308 GTI include a £2,750 saving. Buyers can also benefit from a saving of £2,000 on a petrol powered Peugeot 3008 or £2,500 off the diesel option. 

To comply with their UK Scrappage scheme, Your name must have been on the registration document for at least 90 days.

Renault Scrappage scheme 

Renault Kadjar

Renault has announced their upgrade event that will run until 31 March 2018, the current selected models on offer must be registered by this time. 

The Renault upgrade event provides £2,000 added  to the value of any part-exchange when buying a new Renault Captur, Kadjar or Renault Koleos.

The car to be part-exchanged must be owned for at least 90 days by yourself and is roadworthy. Savings include an additional £250 off a petrol-powered Renault Captur or £500 off diesel-powered models. The Renault Kadjar includes savings of £500 and £1,500 for petrol and diesel-powered models and Renault also offer an additional £2,500 saving on the Renault Koleos.

SKODA Scrappage Scheme

Skoda Superb 2017

Skoda's scrappage scheme has now been extended until 31 March 2018. To qualify, only diesel cars registered on 31 December 2009 or beforehand with Euro 4 emission standards or below can be traded in under their UK Scrappage scheme. 

Current savings include £1,500 off the Skoda Citogo city car, £2,500 towards Skoda Fabia models and a £3,000 saving on the Skoda Rapid or Rapid Spaceback

Their scrappage scheme also qualifies for the Skoda Octavia, offering £3,500 across hatchback and estate models. The Skoda Superb hatchback and Skoda Superb Estate also have a £4,000 scrappage allowance.
