SEAT confirms seven-seater SUV will arrive in 2018

Following the arrival of its first production SUV in 2016, the Ateca, SEAT has now confirmed that it will expand its SUV range with a new, larger seven-seater model coming during the second half of 2018.

Since the arrival of the five-seater Ateca last year, numerous online reports have speculated that SEAT were planning to expand its SUV line-up with models both larger and smaller than its Ateca.

The SEAT CEO Lua De Meo has now officially acknowledged there are plans for a new seven-seater SUV, with sales expected to begin during the latter half of next year. It’s believed this larger new SUV will be based on the Skoda Kodiaq – a recently launched SUV available in five or seven-seater configurations.

The new SEAT SUV will use the same MQB platform shared with numerous models including the Ateca and Kodiaq. A range of turbo petrol and diesel engines can be expected too.

Front-wheel and four-wheel drive powertrains plus the choice of manual or DSG automatic gearboxes are also likely additions.

In terms of styling, the new large SEAT SUV is likely to borrow certain design cues from the SEAT 20V20 concept (seen in the images above) shown a couple of years ago, much like the Ateca did. Pricing meanwhile is likely to start from around £30,000.
