Seat launches electric car share fleet

The brand has launched the cars which are aimed at the 1,000 Seat Metropolis Lab and Pier 01 Tech City employees in Barcelona.

Seat has launched its first fleet of electric cars as part of a car-share scheme in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

Using a series of eMii vehicles, the cars are directed towards the 1,000 employees based at the Seat Metropolis Lab and Pier 01 Barcelona Tech City – one of Europe’s entrepreneurial hubs.

Users are able to book a vehicle through a mobile app and then access the car with a digital key – making the car sharing process much easier.

Seat predicts that 36 million car users will be part of a car sharing service by 2025, and schemes like this in major cities will help drive that growth in use.

Sergi Vila, head of operations and finance at Seat Metropolis:Lab, said: “It’s practical and ideal for the city. I usually take one to attend meetings in Barcelona. When I return it, another colleague can reserve it and take it out.

“You choose the day, the car and the time you need the vehicle…and you’re done! As you access the car with a single click, without the need for a physical key, it makes the system very simple and intuitive.”

Using the eMii, users get a range of 100 miles and when plugged into a fast charging point, it can be fully charged in just 35 minutes.
