SEAT to spend 3.3 billion on four new vehicles

SEAT has announced that it will be spending 3.3 billion euros between 2015 and 2019 in an effort to launch four new vehicles in the next two years.

The announcement was made by the brand’s Executive Committee President Jürgen Stackmann, who said the funding would go towards new facilities and research and development (R&D), both of which would be involved in the launch of four new vehicles.

At SEAT’s Martorell facility, as part of the 40th anniversary of the SEAT Technical Centre, Stackmann said: “The 3.3 billion euros is earmarked for promoting new vehicle development R&D projects at the SEAT Technical Centre as well as equipment and facilities in the Martorell factory.”

One of the key focuses for SEAT will be to launch four new models in the next two years, first of which will be the brand’s new Qashqai-rivalling compact SUV, scheduled to go on sale at the start of next year. Other upcoming SEAT models include a large seven-seat SUV and potentially a smaller Juke-sized crossover competitor.

Stackmann continued: “These models are part of an ambitious plan to continue to strengthen the brand and boost sales, which have been growing consistently since 2013. The spending on innovation ensures competitiveness and employment, and secures the future”.
