See the new Toyota Supra in action; V6 engine confirmed?

The first footage of the much-anticipated new Toyota Supra has been released after it was spotted testing at the Nurburgring.

Successor to the legendary Mk4 Supra, the new model sits on a new chassis co-developed by BMW, and looks to be roughly a similar size to the Mk4, which debuted all the way back in 1993.

The video below shows the new Supra leaving and re-entering the Nurburgring’s BMW M Test Centre, and also offers the first taste of how the car will sound.

Twin-turbo V6 confirmed?

Although the car shown is just a pre-production test mule, the unmistakable sound of turbo spooling seems to confirm that the Supra will indeed be powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

Earlier this year, Car Keys broke the news that the Supra would be V6 powered after learning that Toyota is working on a new V6 engine internally named the 943F.

With a 3.0-litre displacement and twin turbochargers, the new engine is expected to be able to produce upwards of 400bhp with up to 440Nm of torque.

Expect more than 400bhp

Traditionally, the Supra has always used a single turbocharged inline-six engine, but the new V6 would make it more of a rival for the Nissan GT-R, which similarly swapped from straight-six to V6.

Not much else is known about the new Toyota Supra yet, other than it will be built in Austria and not Japan, and that it’ll feature an appearance heavily informed by the gorgeous FT-1 Concept.
