Skoda has announced that the new Scala has entered production at its Mladá Boleslav factory.
The new hatchback is the first car to be built on Volkswagen Group’s new MQB A0 modular platform and is coming into the Czech brand’s range as a replacement for the Rapid.
Skoda’s chief executive officer Bernhard Maier said: “We are starting a new chapter in Skoda’s compact car range with the new Skoda Scala. It is an all-new model that sets benchmarks within its segment in terms of technology, safety and design.
“The Scala perfectly embodies the Skoda-typical ‘smart understatement’. We’re convinced that the Scala has the best chance of redefining the compact segment for Skoda.”
With an interior based on the Vision RS concept seen at the 2018 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Scala also comes with high levels of safety equipment – with features such as lane assist, blind spot detection, side assist with rear traffic alert and adaptive cruise control available.

Customers will also be able to choose from one of four engines at launch – two petrol and two diesels – offering between 113bhp and 148bhp.
Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda board member for production and logistics, said: "The start of production of the all-new Skoda Scala is a very special occasion for the entire company, especially for our workforce. The new model was designed and developed in Mladá Boleslav – and it will be built here from today, as well."
