Skoda has created a new smartphone app that’s able to tell technicians what’s wrong with your car just by listening to the engine sound.
Called ‘Skoda Sound Analyser’, the app has now been successfully trialed with Skoda technicians, and could help to reduce waiting times.
It works by recording noises made by the vehicle and comparing it to them to pre-stored sounds of a perfectly-running car. If there are any differences, an algorithm can determine what the fault is and how it can be resolved.
The app can already recognise 10 sound patterns and is 90 per cent accurate – recognising issues with the steering system, clutch and air conditioning compressor.
Skoda has been trialling the app since June 2019 at 245 dealers in selected markets and it now could be rolled out further with reduced waiting times possible thanks to an instant diagnosis.
