Skoda has revealed images and details for its facelifted Octavia hatchback and estate. The updated family car will be available to order in Britain later this year and first deliveries will follow in early 2017.

As well as receiving styling changes, the Octavia range also gets new technology inside, updated safety kit and some more ‘Simply Clever’ features.

The styling updates for the exterior include a redesigned grille, which is more reminiscent of the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq SUV, plus new LED headlights and a redesigned bonnet. A new range of 16, 17 and 18-inch wheels are also available.

Inside meanwhile, the updated Octavia is available with as many as three infotainment systems named Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus. The top models in the Octavia range get the Columbus device which has a 9.2-inch touchscreen which is more responsive to lighter touches than previous systems used in Skodas.

New ‘Simply Clever’ features in the updated Octavia include convenient things like bottle holders that are specially designed to make opening them easier and a removable torch in the boot of the estate model.

Engines for the facelifted Octavia line-up includes a 1.0-litre petrol with 113bhp, a 1.4-litre petrol with 147bhp, a 1.6-litre diesel offering 113bhp and a 2.0-litre diesel with 147bhp.

The updated driving safety features list now includes trailer assistant, which will take over steering when the car is slowly reversing while towing. Also added is predictive pedestrian protection, which complements the sensor-based Front Assist.
