Skoda Octavia named Car of the Year

The family hatchback was awarded the prize following a survey of over 43,000 people, with the Superb also given an award.

The Skoda Octavia has been given the ‘New Car of the Year 2018’ title at the AutoTrader Awards, which was decided by the general public.

With the car marketplace asking over 43,000 customers in a UK-wide survey, it was found that the Octavia was the best overall package when rated across 16 different criteria.

It was followed by the BMW 1 Series and Peugeot 3008 in the top three, with the survey taking into account reliability, performance, running costs and appearance.

Ivan Aistrop, AutoTrader road test editor, said: “It’s easy to see why Britain’s car owners have voted the Octavia as their overall New Car of the Year.

“It offers an incredibly appealing mix of practicality, quality and affordability, and it’s also good to drive, well equipped and full of clever features to make everyday life easier. As all-rounders go, they don’t get much better than this.”

Skoda’s Superb was also successful, with the large saloon winning the Best Family Car award – the 31st major accolade it has won since 2015.

Aistrop said: “The Superb is a great family car. Family life is demanding, so you need your family car to help make life a little easier every step of the way.

“The Superb is packed with lots of clever labour-saving little features, and it’s also massive, with plenty of space for your brood, and all their stuff. Impressive quality, lots of luxury kit and a sophisticated driving experience all help, too. No wonder owners love it.”
